A 2021 Swim Adventure

The start…

Between May and July 2021, I became the second person (the first woman) to swim round the coast of Bute, after my neighbour Bob did his 10-stage Round Bute Swim in 2020.

As the coast is 70km round, that’s an average of 7km per swim – too far for me. Although I wanted to complete Round Bute too, I couldn’t see how I was going to do it.

I’m a longstanding all-year sea swimmer, and the daily Scottish Winter Swimming Challenge gave me a good start to the year’s mileage. So I started adding up the swims I could do, and planned each more difficult swim as I got round to it …
